For the Cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (or unsweetened almond milk)
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

For the Fudge Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 cups hot water or coffee

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  5. In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle this evenly over the batter.
  6. Carefully pour hot water or coffee over the top without stirring.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is set but the bottom is still gooey.
  8. Let cool for 15 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a deeper chocolate flavor, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
  • Avoid overbaking to keep the cake gooey.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
