For the Cake:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk (or unsweetened almond milk)
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
For the Fudge Sauce:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 cups hot water or coffee
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
- In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle this evenly over the batter.
- Carefully pour hot water or coffee over the top without stirring.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is set but the bottom is still gooey.
- Let cool for 15 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For a deeper chocolate flavor, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
- Avoid overbaking to keep the cake gooey.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
